TIME & ATTENTION

On this morning's local news program, Jason Mraz performed Hearing Double. He sang each lyric twice and the song included the phrase...

Tell tell me me what what you're you're thinkin' thinkin' with with
no no delay delay (delay, delay, delay, delay)
Continually professing his love for a girl, he asks for a response. Similarly, I ask my family members for their thoughts. On my end, I compete against wireless earbuds and endless entertainment from their Instagram, Snapchat, Spotify, and TikTok accounts. My choice words that secure reaction are "Breakfast (lunch or dinner) is ready!"

Connection is Tricky

The big "C" is a two-way street. I started writing this blog out of a need to share this moment in time, then for my family to reference when I'm gone. Joshua Becker published his Busyness is Lazyness article in the recent The Epoch Times' sample edition. He had bumped into a friend battling cancer, regretting not having checked in with him and recalled Blaine Pascal's words,
All of humanity's problems stem from man's inability to sit quietly in a room alone.
In college, Joshua learned that an hour of solitude each week allows our minds to slow down and our hearts to focus on wherever they take us. As an adult, he intends to connect with others with more intentionality, planning, and execution.

A Legacy of Gratitude

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and this blog would be remiss without addressing it. I am a seventeen-year survivor and reoccurrence looms. Below are the causes I promote:
  • One central source for clinical studies is organized by the Love Research Army.
  • The Ford Warriors in Pink campaign originated the use of our buying power to support cancer research.
  • Since 1992, Avon fundraised $800M through its Pink Hope products to crusade for research, to fund nonprofits like the American Cancer Society, and to educate women through multi-city walks.

  • Smaller retailers created compassionate giving campaigns for nonprofits serving those undergoing cancer treatment.
  • Closer to home, Rico's on Third coordinates with Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center to donate hair cuts, head shaves, scarf- and wig-fittings to chemotherapy patients.
Our next generation of daughters watch how we deal with our present reality.

Never Alone

Can you hear it--- another shout out coming? A loyal reader of this blog is a pediatric nurse who dedicated her vacation time and physical endurance to cancer camaraderie. A compassionate connection isn't always through the pocketbook but the time spent helping fit a wig, offering high tea, or walking for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) Team in Training. That's how she turned the big, scary "C" into the essential action C's for me.

Another anthem song is the recent PINK song by Dolly Parton who instills so much hope. The first book one gets from her Imagination Library is the classic The Little Engine That Could. The video below shows her Pink song lyrics:

Full Circle (3-year Update)

Surprise! Jason Mraz just started competing in ABC's Dancing With The Stars. I wish him well. Better news? I got another clean mammogram result.. survivor to thriver?
